How can you show your tree appreciation? Go outside and have fun with trees.
Let’s Get Started
Show some love for trees by adopting a tree in your backyard or local outdoor areas.

Make an adoption tag for your tree. To help the adoption tag last longer, place it in a reusable bag or folder. Then poke a hole through a corner of the card and loop a piece of string through the hole and loosely tie it onto a branch or around the trunk of your adopted tree.

Sit below your tree, close your eyes and listen. How many sounds can you hear? Is the wind blowing? Do you hear birds? Photograph or sketch your tree through the seasons.

Visit your tree often and at different times of the day. Write the date and an observation on the back of your adoption card or in your Nature Notebook each time you visit. Has your tree changed since your last visit? What’s happening around your tree?
Document Your Discoveries
- Draw and describe your newly adopted tree in your Nature Notebook.
- Trees are an important part of the ecosystem. Note the kinds of wildlife you find in and around your tree.
